The Wagenia Genya are a fishing people living along the Congo River near Kisangani, especially around the Boyoma Falls. For centuries they have practiced a distinctive communal fishing method using wooden tripods and basket traps anchored in river rocks, a tradition observed since at least the 1800s. Their primary language is Enya.

Life centers on the Congo River. Men construct and maintain fishing structures, while families share the daily catch. Knowledge passes from father to son. Families are close-knit, celebrating rites of passage such as circumcision near the river.
