The Waimiri-Atroari are one of the Carib peoples. The Waimiri-Atroari language is part of the Yanomami language family. Their homeland is in northern Brazil's state of Amazonas.
This tribe needs to learn new skills so they can adapt to their changing situation of encounters with the outside world. Christ followers can train them in these skills. They need someone to advocate for them. They have a long, tragic history of contact with outsiders who want to use their land. In the 1970s-80s, the Brazilian government used their land to construct a highway and a dam, displacing the people. They are adapting to having their homeland controlled by outsiders. Though there are efforts to get their land back, it is an uphill battle. All that the Waimiri-Atroari have left is their religion. Most will feel that accepting Christ is one more demand from outsiders.
"And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy." Leviticus 19:1-2
Pray that new believers among this people group will seek holiness by allowing the Holy Spirit to transform them from the inside out.
Pray for the Lord to bless this community economically and spiritually. Pray for Christian advocates to assist them in relating to the outside world. Ask God to raise up Waimiri-Atroari who desire to know the truth. Ask God to send loving, committed workers to the Waimiri-Atroari soon.
