Introduction / History

The Tagbo, also called Tagbu or Tagba, are a small Ubangian-speaking people living in scattered communities in northeastern DRC. Their history reflects long settlement in forest–savanna zones shaped by farming, trade, and regional conflicts. Their primary language is called Tagbu.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most Tagbo families practice subsistence agriculture, growing cassava, maize, and peanuts, while supplementing diets with fishing and hunting. Extended families live in close-knit villages where elders guide community decisions. Celebrations center on harvests, marriages, and births, marked by drumming, dancing, and shared meals of cassava porridge, leafy greens, and palm oil-based dishes.

What Are Their Beliefs?

There are few Tagbo evangelists, but many identify as Christian; though traditional ethnic religion remains influential, especially in matters of healing, protection, and ancestor respect. Biblical resources in their heart language are limited, hindering deeper discipleship.

What Are Their Needs?

Access to Scripture in their language, sound biblical teaching, and trained local leaders would help strengthen the church. Improved healthcare, clean water, and food security would reduce preventable disease and hardship. Peace, stability, and education are vital for long-term community flourishing. The Tagbo need spiritual renewal and commitment to biblical faith.

Prayer Items

Pray for spiritual renewal and unity among believers.
Pray asking God to provide Scripture resources, faithful teachers, and compassionate outreach.
Pray for protection, sustainable livelihoods, and reconciliation in a region often marked by instability.
Pray that the Tagbo Christians would wholeheartedly embrace the great commission, preach the gospel, teach the Bible, plant churches, and make disciples.
