The ancestors of the Swedes were among the Viking raiders in the 800s and 900s. They tended to move further east than other Viking raiders. Sweden had a strong kingdom in the middle ages, and during the 1800s, they dominated nearby Norway. Unlike Norway, that was taken over by the Germans in WWII, Sweden remained neutral in that massive war.
Most Swedes remain in Sweden, but there are some who have migrated elsewhere for work. Germany is one of these countries. Many of the Swedes live either in Berlin or Hamburg.
Many Swedish adults in Germany are employed in industrial occupations and office work in the public sector. People in rural areas of Sweden still farm as a major means of employment. The majority of Swedes, nearly one-quarter, are employed in the service industry.
Reserved to strangers, Swedes tend to be a challenge for evangelism.
The main religion is Lutheran, and most children are baptized as infants. However, most are atheist or agnostic, especially those in Germany. Materialistic worldview predominates. There are Swedish disciples, but much fewer of them in Germany than in other countries.
Depression is a problem for many Swedes. The younger generations are more and more influenced by western globalized culture and the hopelessness that it brings.
Pray Swedes will move beyond a mindset of self-sufficiency and put their trust in God.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to do a miracle in Germany by drawing thousands of Swedes to Christ.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out Swedish Christian believers to take Christ to Swedes in Germany.
