The Ngamani Nusan Xoo are part of the broader Khoisan ethno-linguistic group, linked explicitly to the Nusan, Xoo subgroup. They are spread across Botswana with smaller pockets in South Africa and Namibia.
They are similar to many of the San peoples in terms of their social and family lives. The Ngamani Nusan Xoos live in small bands made up of extended family networks. Leadership is determined by skills that benefit the group rather than heredity. There is much mutual aid and cooperation among them.
Their economy is subsistence; they rarely have food left over for hard times. Those who can’t survive in the bush must either engage in small trade or take on day labor. Like many hunter-gatherers, women gather wild fruits, roots, honey, and vegetables, while the men hunt wild game. They use bows and arrows tipped with poison. They usually get their water from roots and eggs.
Ngamani Nusan Xoo spirituality is tied to ancestral spirits and forces of nature. They have great respect for the wildlife around them. Certain animals have spiritual and symbolic power. Spiritual leaders are also healers; they have excellent knowledge of medicinal plants.
There is a small Christian presence among them in all three countries where they live, but they need much more biblical training and discipleship.
Ngamani Nusan Xoos have limited access to healthcare, education, and clean water. Due to their subsistence lifestyle and increasingly dry conditions, they face food and water insecurity. They also need to hear about the Water of Life from the many Christianized peoples in southern Africa.
Pray for the Ngamani Nusan Xoos to soon hear about Jesus Christ and embrace the pure spiritual water he offers.
Pray for Bible stories to become popular and spread from one family to another.
Pray that soon they will have vibrant fellowships, defined by Christian love and miraculous healings.
Pray for the Lord to show his power and goodness through healing their diseases.
Pray for Ngamani Nusan Xoos to find new ways to make a living as their land is becoming increasingly difficult to support themselves on.
Scripture Prayers for the Nusan, West Xo in Namibia.
