Introduction / History

Gova Mbukushus are located along the Okavango Delta panhandle in Botswana. The largest villages on the western panhandle are Etsha 6 and Shakawe. Seronga is the largest village on eastern side. Others live in Angola, Zambia, and Botswana.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The people live predominantly in mud and thatched huts. Fishing and farming are the primary methods of sustenance. The Gova Mbukushu are known for their baskets, and in larger cities, they are sold for large amounts of money.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Gova Mbukushu people hold to a variety of beliefs. Traditional doctors (medicine doctors) and animistic religious systems are common as well as syncretistic belief systems incorporated into "churches" that do not know or communicate the gospel.

What Are Their Needs?

It is a challenging place to live, situated on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Rain and the annual delta floods are essential for food and grasses/reeds used to build with. Elephants often destroy crops.

Pray that them to find new sources of clean drinking water.
Pray for the Lord to move powerfully in Gova Mbukushu families and villages, giving hundreds a desire to follow Jesus no matter what the cost.
Pray that soon Gova Mbukushu Christians will be evangelizing and disciples those who aren’t experiencing the abundant life only Jesus offers.
Pray for the Lord to provide them with an abundant harvest as a testimony of his power and love.
