They call themselves Yjxa, which means "we" or "people."
Farming is an important part of their diet. They grow cassava, rice, flour, bananas, oranges, and watermelon, in addition to hunting.
There is an internal division in religious practice: some still follow traditional shamanic practices, while others are evangelical Christians or pastors.
They need better quality healthcare and easier access to medical services, as well as health education.
Pray that Christians among the Karitiana will rise up as ambassadors of Christ and bring the truth to their people.
