Introduction / History

The Hanga Angba are a Bantu people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo who speak the Ngelima/Angba language. They live primarily in rural communities within Congo's diverse cultural mosaic, shaped by centuries of local traditions and later Christian influence.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Hanga Angba families are largely agrarian, raising cassava, plantains, maize, and other staples, sharing meals and responsibilities within extended family networks. Celebrations often revolve around harvests, weddings, and Christian holy days, with cassava and moambe-style dishes featured on special occasions. Daily life is community-oriented, with cooperation in fields and homes common amidst the challenges of rural Congolese life.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though listed as primarily Christian, many Hanga Angba villagers blend faith in Christ with familiar patterns of community ritual and respect for ancestors common across the DRC. The gospel has taken root, and local congregations meet for worship, song, and prayer, yet access to Scripture and discipleship resources in their own language is limited. There are few evangelical believers among the Hanga Angba.

What Are Their Needs?
