The Mahongwes speak a language by the same name. They only live in northwestern Gabon near the Congo border. They did better than most tribes in resisting French colonialism.
Most Mahongwes are subsistence farmers, but others are skilled craftsmen.
At the core of their beliefs is an ancestor-worshipping cult. Because of their fear of ancestral spirits, they show devotion to relics related to specific ancestors. They believe these relics also protect them. Relics related to recently deceased chiefs are especially important. Such relics might include skulls, bones, or metal goods owned by a deceased chief.
Mahongwes need liberation from their fear of the spirit world. That will only come from a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ, the King of kings.
Pray for the Lord to show himself all powerful and good to the Mahongwes in Gabon.
Pray that soon there will come a day when Mahongwe disciples will disciple others.
