This tribe was greatly taken advantage of, exploited, and enslaved by important farmers. Even though they managed to have their territory recognized in 1982 after much struggle, they were soon kicked out by hired gunmen in 1996. With determination and persistence, they were able to reclaim the land of their village in 1999, where some still live today.
Today, the Kaimbes who live in the village are divided into four groups, each under the leadership of a chief. The others are scattered across the country in family units.
The main religion is Catholicism, but there are also many who are part of the Evangelical faith. All maintain their indigenous traditions, regardless of their religion. There is both a Catholic church and an Evangelical church in the community.
Although they have been introduced to Christ, most have not yet had the revelation of who he truly is, which has not led to real repentance or a change in behavior. This can be seen in the way they live, which does not reflect the life of Christ.
Pray for a revelation of who God is and who they are, so they may bow before the Savior and desire to live the life of Christ in them.Pray for a complete turnaround in their lives and that the message they hear in the churches will touch them deeply.
