Kanjar (Hindu traditions) in India

They were labeled a "criminal tribe" during colonial rule, branded as such by their fellow countrymen, and today they have been called the "most despicable" of all the people in India. Given the vast number of people groups in this huge country, this is quite a condemnation! Kanjars are believed to have fled to their current locations hundreds of years ago to escape proselytization by Muslim Mughal conquerors. They were rendered homeless and took refuge in jungles and consequently resorted to hunting and looting to eke out a living. The Kanjars earned an even worse reputation by prostituting their women and engaging in a variety of other illegal activities. They have incurred God's disfavor by choosing to worship Bhavani and the goddess Prabha. They also invoke the powers of a "protector-exorcist" known as Syaanaa to ward off evil spirits and regularly pay homage to their ancestors through prayer and the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Ministry Obstacles
Many potential evangelists will not approach them due to their reputation. The Kanjar may be suspicious of outsiders due to ostracism.

Scripture Focus
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."  Jeremiah 1:5

Scripture Prayer
Pray for the Lord to thrust out many prophets from every nation to every nation in the 2020s.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the love of Christ to open doors among the Kanjars. Pray the Kanjar will listen to Christian broadcasts and that the Lord will give them interest and understanding. Pray for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully among Kanjar families and elders, bringing them to a place where they honor a new and true Savior, Jesus Christ.
