Bhulia in India

According to Bhulia wedding customs, the bridegroom is expected to carry the bride seven times around the sacrificial fire in a basket. If he cannot, the grandfather of the bride carries them both. The married couple go back to the village after the wedding ceremony. They allow for divorce, and widows are permitted to marry again. Bhulia eat meat and drink alcohol. Bhulia are a caste of weavers. One legend says that the Bhulia migrated to Odisha with the first Chauhan Raja of Patna.

Ministry Obstacles
The Bhulia live in a part of India where there are few Christians. Lacking opportunities to hear the gospel, the Bhulia can naturally resist any opportunities associated with unfamiliar beliefs.

Scripture Focus
"For "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you."  1 Peter 1:24-25

Scripture Prayer
Pray that as the word of God is shared with this people group and that they see its truth and beauty.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the Bhulia will recognize that their old systems of ethics and religion are no longer effective, and that their only hope lies in Jesus Christ. Pray that intercessors worldwide will regularly pray for the Bhulia to accept Jesus' salvation. Pray for workers to disciple them. Pray that many Bhulia will disciple others until this people group comes to know that Jesus Christ is Lord. Ask God to raise entire families and communities until their culture transforms to glorify God and fully represent his kingdom here on earth.
