Kunbi Mahratta in India
KOON-bee mah-RAH-tah

The Mahratta Kunbis primarily live as farmers in their villages. Others are traders, soldiers, or work in government service. Coming from a higher social class, the Mahratta Kunbis do not typically face discrimination, but they have opportunities to advance due to their status socially. Cattle owned by families are often the centerpiece of farming festivals, and families take great pride in their ownership. As Hindus, they worship the god Shiva, as well as other gods and their various incarnations, such as Vishnu and Devi. A temple is common in villages and central to the many life cycle celebrations associated with Hinduism, such as those at birth, marriage, and death. The temple priest is often from the Brahmin class.

Ministry Obstacles
This large community is spread across India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It will likely require many workers and other resources to communicate the gospel message to them effectively.

Pray for this people to have wide open ears to the words of the Lord.

Prayer Focus
Pray that God would work among the Kunbis, who will come to hear and accept the gospel truth of Jesus as Savior for themselves. Then, may visiting and national leaders share the gospel, providing further discipleship so the gospel can expand among the Kunbi. Although this caste holds a fairly high social status, they are generally poor economically. Please pray for improved farming practices and better healthcare as they start to trust God as their provider.
