Pashayi in Afghanistan

Pashayi women have more freedom than most Muslims; they can even interact freely with men. The men are lawless and carry knives or firearms. The Pashayi were formerly animists, Buddhists and Hindus. Now they are nominally Sunni Muslims but depend on amulets and charms for protection and blessings. Their economy is based on agriculture in the lowlands and livestock herding in the mountains. The highest group is property owners, then artisans, and at the bottom are landless tenants. Village councils decide who gets irrigated water, but each man must guard their rights and avenge wrongs.

Ministry Obstacles
Feuds are common. Those who are considered without honor are ridiculed. Those who accept Christ will need to face ridicule and a loss of honor.

Scripture Focus
"And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?"  Hebrews 3:18

Scripture Prayer
Pray that today’s people group would enter into God’s spiritual rest by trusting in and obeying His Son.

Prayer Focus
Pray for God to bless the Pashayi abundantly through adequate water, a good harvest, and by meeting their physical and spiritual needs as a testimony of his sovereignty. Pray that Christ's ambassadors will have the opportunity to interact with Pashayi leaders, paving the way for the gospel to bless this Muslim people group. Pray that Christ will prove stronger than amulets and charms. Pray that Christ will be a peacemaker, ending feuds. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Pashayi that will never die.
