Introduction / History

Viswerna is a small Naga tribe living in Nagaland, India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Viswernas live in hilly and forested areas of Nagaland, where their lifestyle is closely tied to their natural environment. Agriculture, hunting, and traditional crafts form the backbone of their economy. Community life is vibrant, with elders playing a key role in decision-making and cultural preservation. Children are taught through stories, songs, and hands-on experiences that prepare them for adult roles. Their resilience and respect for tradition are central to their way of life.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Like other Naga tribes, the Viswernas are Christian. Viswernas have a high percentage of Christians even for a Naga tribe, but they struggle with marginalism. They still have elements of their traditional religion, which involved the worship of nature and ancestral spirits.

What Are Their Needs?

They need more access to education and healthcare. They also need more educational opportunities so they can advance beyond subsistence farming.

Prayer Points

Pray for spiritual renewal and deeper discipleship among Viswerna believers.
Pray that soon Viswerna disciples will make more disciples, even among the Tibetan Buddhists.
Pray for easy access to Christian resources in the Sumi Naga language.
Pray for improved access to education and healthcare in Viswerna communities.
