Introduction / History
Paites are an ethnic group primarily residing in the northeastern Indian states of Manipur and Mizoram. One group speaks Simte, which is also the name of a Paite subgroup.
What Are Their Lives Like?
Traditionally, Paite Simtes were farmers, but they are adapting to modern times by taking jobs in education, government, government service, and politics. They are more likely to be educated than most tribal people in India.
Though they are becoming more urbanized, Simte Paites society is still community-oriented, with strong family ties. They participate in local organizations such as the Young Paite Association and Paite Literature Society.
Their traditional festivals help them maintain cultural practices like folk dances, music, and storytelling.
At these festivals, Paite women wear colorful traditional clothes.

Paite Simtes are almost entirely Christian, though nominalism is a problem.
