Introduction / History

Phimbi speakers are found only in Mozambique’s Tete province. This language is only spoken by a couple of thousand people.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Phimbis are subsistence farmers. Most also have chickens, and sometimes cows and goats.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Almost half of the Phimbis are Christian, mainly Roman Catholic and mainline Protestant. Traditional African religion is what most hold closest to their hearts.

What Are Their Needs?

Wycliffe Bible Translators are trying to translate the Bible into the Phimbi language. They had two translation workshops in 2024. So far, they have one Bible recording. There is a great need for recorded translations, as the Phimbis are more likely to hear their own language than read it. Having materials in their language also helps to unify them and preserve their culture.

Prayer Points

Pray for a spiritual hunger that will drive hundreds of Phimbi speakers to seek and find Jesus Christ.
Pray that the translators and the facilitators be filled with the Holy Spirit and sound understanding as they translate the Word of God.
Pray this translation brings transformation to the lives of the translators and the hearers of the word of God.
Pray for God to overrule any problems translators have with transportation in and out of this remote area.
