Introduction / History

The Kaixana people live near the Mapari River. Their history has been marked by forced displacement and violent actions.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Kaixanas live in communities, and fishing, gathering plants (especially Brazil nuts), and farming play an important role in their daily life. The production of manioc flour, which is made in the flour house, is very important not only for their economy but also for their diet. Hunting, although less common today, also adds to their food supply. The tradition of making clay artifacts has been completely abandoned. However, objects made only from plant materials are still produced, such as straw work—baskets, house roofing, sieves, mats, fans, and hats. They also continue to make wooden items, such as canoes, paddles, and work tools.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Today, most of the Kaixana identify as Christians, but many need a deeper understanding of the Savior of mankind.

What Are Their Needs?

They face threats to their environment and quality of life, especially because of illegal gold mining and predatory fishing in their territory. They need the government to treat them fairly.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Christians there will grow deeper in God’s word and share it with others.Pray for local disciplers to teach them to follow in the steps of Jesus.Ask the Lord to intervene in their daily struggles.
