Introduction / History

The Mingang Doso, also known as the Munga, are an ethnic group living primarily in Taraba State, Nigeria, especially in the Karim Lamido area. They speak the Mingang Doso language, which belongs to the Adamawa branch of the Niger-Congo language family. The Mingang Doso have maintained their language and identity over generations, with their history closely tied to the land and neighboring Adamawa-Ubangi peoples.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Mingang Doso live in rural communities where farming is the main occupation. Men and women work together in the fields, cultivating crops such as millet, maize, and sorghum. Families are typically extended, with several generations sharing a compound and daily responsibilities. Meals are prepared from locally grown grains and vegetables, and meat is eaten when available. Community life is marked by celebrations and festivals, especially during harvest and important life events. Music, dance, and storytelling are woven into their gatherings, strengthening family and community bonds.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Religious life among the Mingang Doso is diverse. Many continue to follow traditional beliefs, honoring ancestral spirits and practicing rituals passed down through generations. There is also a significant Christian presence, with churches established in some communities. A smaller number of Mingang Doso identify as Muslims. While Christianity is growing, traditional beliefs remain influential in daily life and community events. Followers of Jesus Christ among the Mingang Doso need to seek to live out their faith and share the hope they have found.

What Are Their Needs?

Access to education and healthcare is limited in many Mingang Doso communities. Clean water and improved agricultural resources would greatly benefit families. While some have access to Christian resources in the Mingang Doso language, others have not yet heard the message of Jesus Christ in a way they can fully understand. There is a need for more workers who can share the gospel and help address both physical and spiritual needs.

Prayer Points

Pray for improved access to education, healthcare, and clean water among the Mingang Doso.
Ask God to open hearts to the message of Jesus Christ.
Pray that believers in Mingang Doso churches will be equipped and sent to share the gospel with those who have never heard.
Pray for peace, unity, and hope in every Mingang Doso community.
