Introduction / History

The Bori tribe speaks Adi. They live in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Boris are subsistence farmers who grow rice, beans, corn, millet, and vegetables. They get their meat from pigs, chickens, mithuns (a domesticated bovine), and from hunting and fishing. The latter two are becoming less available due to environmental restrictions. They earn cash by selling handmade bamboo and cane goods. Women make and sell woven goods.

Families arrange most marriages, and they involve a bride price. Many ceremonies involve music, dance, and storytelling. One only marries outside their clan.

The biggest celebration for the year is the Donggin Festival. It is a spring festival that involves animal sacrifice for prosperity and the health of the community.

There is a bride price, and they must marry outside their clan. Marriage ceremonies are loaded with rituals and feasting. The entire village comes to participate.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most are Christians, but they have an animistic underpinning.

What Are Their Needs?

Globalization poses a significant challenge for subsistence farmers worldwide. They are falling further behind the rest of the world, which will eventually challenge their land rights and lead to displacement. Those who move to urban centers often struggle to find adequate work unless they have a higher level of education.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to give the Boris the abundant life only Jesus Christ can offer.
Pray for those who follow Christ to follow him more closely.
Pray for them to get the education they need to advance in the coming decades.
Pray for revival fire to move in Bori churches.
