Introduction / History

Yagomi is a village located in Madang province in the Rai Coast District of Papua New Guinea. It is a coastal village with its own language, cultures, and a beautiful environment. The village has a big, fast-flowing river called the Yaut River.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most of their houses are built with kunai grass. Their staple foods include yam, taro root, bananas, and other locally grown produce. They hunt in the forest for their meat, and fish in the rivers.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Almost all Yagomis identify as Christian. They don’t yet have a Bible, and there are few gospel materials in their Yagomi language. Some blend traditional religion with their Christianity.

What Are Their Needs?

Yagomis need higher education opportunities so they can have the opportunity to rise above subsistence farming.
