Introduction / History
Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia until it became an independent country in 1993. The Slovak language has some similarities to Czech but is different.
The Slovak diaspora is in just about all European countries, such as Belgium.
What Are Their Lives Like?
To maintain their culture in Belgium, Slovaks engage in their own folk music. They love going to movies and making pottery. Favorite foods among the Slovaks include cabbage soup and dumplings with cheese. Their favorite sports include soccer, ice hockey and tennis.
What Are Their Beliefs?
Most practice ethnic religion, but they are officially Christian. The Shekos have an Evangelical majority, which can reach those who haven't put all their faith in Jesus.
What Are Their Needs?
The Shekos need a complete Bible and a wide distribution of gospel materials.
