Introduction / History

The Senas are a Bantu tribe that lives mainly in Mozambique. A smaller number are in Zimbabwe. This latter group came to Zimbabwe are migrant workers and later settled in the early 20th century. Their Sena language has many dialects.

They and other tribes were often used as slaves by the Portuguese and Arab Muslim traders.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Because of their hot, humid climate, the Senas in Mozambique wear few clothes, but they cover their legs for modesty sake. Most fish and farm for their food supply. Others are migrant laborers.

Before a wedding, there is a bride price which involves cattle. The more conservative Senas have child marriages and polygamy.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Sahos are Christian though there is a Muslim minority among them.

What Are Their Needs?

By contextualizing his message, a Christian worker could live among the Saho and provide them with an adequate witness of the gospel. The Saho community is fertile soil for sowing the seed of the gospel. They need workers!
