Introduction / History

Most Namas live in Namibia, but there are also some in South Africa. They speak a language that can be called Nama or Khoekhoe.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Nama lands are communally owned. Stories, poems, folktales, and proverbs have been orally passed down through the generations. They tell of their values and morals as a people and keep their culture alive. Their crafts include leatherwork, mats, clay pots, musical instruments (such as reed flutes), and jewelry.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though traditional African religion is part of their lives, most identify as Christian. There are efforts by Muslims to win them to the Islamic religion.

What Are Their Needs?

Namas need better education so they can adjust to a changing world. Most live in Namibia, an impoverished country.

Prayer Points

Pray for Christians to help the Namas adjust through education and vocational training.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move through Nama families and churches, drawing them close to the King of kings.
Pray that soon Nama workers will take Christ to unreached nomadic peoples in Africa.
