The Mo'da people speak the Mo'da language, which belongs to the Nilo-Saharan language family. They have inhabited regions of South Sudan for centuries, preserving a traditional lifestyle deeply rooted in their land, oral history, and cultural practices.
The Mo'da community primarily engages in subsistence agriculture and livestock herding. They cultivate crops such as sorghum, millet, and maize, and raise cattle, goats, and sheep. Villages are composed of extended families living in mud huts with thatched roofs, and social life is centered around communal activities and traditional ceremonies. Their lifestyle reflects a strong connection to nature and ancestral heritage.
The Mo'da people follow a blend of traditional African religions and Christianity. Indigenous beliefs include ancestor worship and animism, with reverence for spirits believed to inhabit natural elements like trees and rivers. Christianity has made inroads through missionary efforts, but many Mo'da still integrate traditional spiritual practices into their daily lives.
The Mo'da people have limited access to clean water, which affects health and sanitation. Especially in remote villages, they have insufficient healthcare services.Lack of educational limits their opportunities and keeps them held back. Their agricultural techniques are underdeveloped, which hinders food security.
Pray for clean water access to be expanded for every Mo'da village.Pray for healthcare workers and mobile clinics to reach remote areas.Pray for educational initiatives that empower Mo'da children and youth.Pray for Mo’da believers to hear the gospel, respond to it, and share it with others.Pray that soon Mo’da Christians will become Christ’s ambassadors to Muslims.Pray for peace and unity between the Mo'da and neighboring ethnic groups.
